Questions
How many tags should a small support team use?
Fewer than you think. Around ten topic tags cover most small teams, plus a few for type and source. If agents have to stop and decide between two tags, merge them.
Why split tags into topic, type and source?
Each group answers a different question: what the ticket is about, what the customer wants, and where it came from. One ticket gets one tag from each, so reports stay clean.
Should tags be lowercase with hyphens?
Yes. One spelling per tag means filters and reports match every ticket. Mixed case and spaces create near-duplicates that split your counts.
When should I add a new tag?
When the same thing shows up in at least a handful of tickets a month and you would act on the count. Retire tags nobody has used for a quarter.
Is anything I type saved?
No. The list is built in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
